Pet Bed Comparisons
While many pet beds on the market may seem soft and
comfortable when you feel them with your hands, it is very important that
consideration be given for proper orthopedic support, as a dog or cat may
develop joint problems later on due to poor body alignment while sleeping.
A proper bed will not allow a dog to sink into the middle like a hammock, but
rather be contoured around the whole body evenly. Gel and air beds
will allow displacement of the material from the middle to the sides when
pressure is applied due to the material being contained within vinyl bagging.
This is why Gel and Air substances cause a "trampoline" like effect that leads
to poor joint alignment and increased pressure as the body leans towards the
middle. Cotton and Cedar chip beds will give way to heavier areas and
eventually matt down over time. Springs do not contour the body well and
when too soft, also cause the "trampoline" like effect that leads to poor joint
alignment and increased pressure as the body leans towards the middle.
The bottom line is that only properly designed memory foam
will offer a comfortable way to contour the body, hold its shape over time, and
allow good alignment of the joints due to its ability to form an impression of
the body's shape.
